Dinner & A Movie

With summer travel plans still out of reach, many of us are craving an escape beyond home life which has been our everything for the past few months. Until borders are open and its again safe to visit the rest of the world, some of our favourite London restaurants are delivering; pair them with the suggested feel-good films, and you just might feel like you're there.

Cinema Paradiso

Circolo Popolare + Cinema Paradiso

Fitzrovia's Sicilian trattoria is offering a significant portion of their menu for delivery or collection. Whilst you won't be able to sit amongst the garden-esque decor, you can enjoy a courgette flower pizza and a selection of antipasti, as well as wine, signature cocktails and dessert, from the comfort of home. Eaten as you watch Academy Award-winning Cinema Paradiso, a poetic film about a Sicilian boy with filmmaking aspirations, you'll be transported to Piazza Umberto I.

Sake no Hana

Lost In Translation 1

Sake no Hana + Lost In Translation

Sofia Coppola's thoughtful film won an Oscar, and with good reason. Narrated through the American lens of two travellers who meet at a hotel, it explores themes of loneliness and culture shock set against the dramatic backdrop of Tokyo. Mayfair's Sake no Hana is currently delivering via Supper—choose from a set menu for up to four people, or order from the à la carte options; make sure to include a bottle of sake to complete the experience.

Berenjak + Taxi Tehran

Soho Persian restaurant Berenjak is on Deliveroo, sending their perfect kababs and sides throughout London. It won't replace the experience of dining there, we love sitting at the counter and watching the action as the fragrant coals, and vibrant vegetables appear in front of us. Until we're back there, though, eating at home is a fitting substitute. Taxi Tehran, a docufilm from 2015, stars director Jafar Panahi as he drives through Tehran, posing as a share taxi driver, collecting stories from each passenger he picks up.

Clipstone + Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels

Guy Ritchie's crime-comedy explores different pockets of the underworld through the story of a gambling bet gone wrong. A commercial success on both sides of the pond, this action-packed film has comedic undertones and a fast pace that make it a joy to watch. Enjoy it alongside some fine British cuisine. Clipstone is delivering à la carte menu items, a grocery selection, and packages for occasions such as date night.

Monsoon Wedding

Trishna + Monsoon Wedding

Trishna, the little sister Indian restaurant to Gymkhana, is Michelin-starred for a reason—the food is incredible. Choose from one of their set 'Feast' menus, or order a selection of items from the Tandoor along with curry and vegetable side dishes. BAFTA-winning Monsoon Wedding tells the story of Aditi, a young Indian woman, and the time leading up to her arranged wedding. Many side stories explore the dimensions of life in modern India and its colourful exuberance.

Lurra + Volver

Marylebone restaurant Lurra focusses on Basque cuisine, much of it perfectly cooked over a charcoal grill. For the time being, they've made their meats available to cook at home, or you can order from a limited selection of prepared items—we recommend the Classic Tortilla and Grilled Octopus—and several Spanish wines are on offer as well. Volver, a film by celebrated director Pedro Almodóvar and starring Penélope Cruz, tells the fantastical tale of a woman who returns to her hometown for a funeral and encounters the ghost of her mother.

Naughty Piglets

Naughty Piglets + Amélie

If you're lucky enough to live near Brixton's Naughty Piglets, they've begun taking orders for collection. Plan in advance, as they've been selling out, and order generously as everything is truly delicious. The French-leaning menu changes weekly; follow their Instagram for menu updates and wine recommendations. Amélie is a quintessential feel-good film, detailing the story of an eccentric Parisian resident. Expect to smile as you explore Gallic life through her lens.
