Those who prefer a plant-based lifestyle are no longer relegated to ordering side salads. Explore the delicious fine dining options catering to vegetarians and vegans across the US.

Nix Dining

Nix - 72 University Place, NYC 10003

This Michelin-starred fully veg restaurant has fast become a staple on the New York plant-based scene. The menu changes seasonally, and always features a separate vegan section. Separated into sections entitled ‘Lighter’ and ‘Bolder,’ the creative dishes include items such as Shiitake ‘Cacio e Pepe’ and Tandoor Roasted Beet Salad. The atmosphere is minimalist and serene; a lovely backdrop for enjoying their signature The Nix cocktail, which adds fresh strawberry, cherry tomato, and chilli to vodka.

Narcissa

Narcissa - 25 Cooper Square, NYC 10003

Not actually a specifically vegan or vegetarian restaurant, the excellence of the veggie-based dishes at Narcissa earn it a place on this list. Discerning dishes such as Smoky Japanese Sweet Potato and Roasted Cauliflower are highlights of the regular menu, whilst the vegan section has a delicious Mushroom Consommé and Olive Oil Cake. The animated environment is excellent for a long dinner with friends, and the excellent curated wine list spotlights mostly biodynamic bottles. They serve delicious brunch as well—try the Vegan Chilaquiles.

Danielnyc

Daniel - 60 East 65th Street, NYC 10065

A refined uptown French restaurant, most guests do not visit Daniel for their vegetarian tasting menu—but that is a mistake. The seasonal menu is perfectly executed using classic French techniques, and the award-winning wine cellar features many biodynamic and natural bottles. The sophisticated neoclassical dining room is expectedly white-table-clothed; men are expected to wear a jacket. This is a passionate and modern dining experience and perfect for a special occasion.

Vedge

Vedge - 1221 Locust Street, Philadelphia PA 19107

Located in an elegant brownstone in downtown Philadelphia, this plant-based restaurant from a husband and wife team has deservedly won many awards. The seasonal menu is beautifully presented and features exceptionally high attention to detail. One of their most popular items, the Rutabaga Fondue, is served with a reinvented Philly favourite—a soft pretzel, for dipping. Sophisticated but comfortable—equally suitable for a date or family dinner—this restaurant will make you rethink everything you previously thought about vegan food.

Plantmiami

Plant Miami - 105 NE 24th Street, Miami FL 33137

The dining element of The Sacred Space Miami, a conceptual lifestyle space offering talks, classes, workshops and a store all within a modular indoor/outdoor space in the centre of Miami. An immersive experience, a meal at Plant encourages experiencing the other elements of Sacred Space and feels somewhat spiritual. The menu incorporates produce from their own Paradise Farms, and everything is homemade—for example, they offer many kinds of homemade ‘cheese.’ Globally-inspired, expect of-the-moment ingredients such as CBD as well as excellent salads.

Theravens 1

The Ravens - 44850 Comptche Ukiah Road, Mendocino CA 95460

Set high on the bluffs with panoramic ocean views, this vegan restaurant is located in the Stanford Inn by the Sea. Open from breakfast until dinner, the menu spotlights produce grown in their organic garden and is best paired with their award-winning natural wine list. The breakfast, in particular, is quite celebrated and recreates breakfast favourites without the use of animal products. Also, they can create a ‘Lunch On-The-Go’ should you be passing through or exploring the beautiful environs.

French laundry

The French Laundry - 6440 Washington Street, Yountville CA 94599

The penultimate dining experience by Thomas Keller has three Michelin stars and features classic French cuisine in tasting menu format. Many who’ve been lucky enough to visit more than once actually prefer the ‘Tasting Of Vegetable’ menu, as it is so aptly named—it changes daily and spotlights the freshest seasonal vegetables (they even employ a ‘Culinary Gardener’) in myriad elegant formats. Chef Keller works only with boutique suppliers, ensuring your experience of eating veggies will be unlike anything ever before. The stunning presentation of each dish is a venture in and of itself. You made it here—savour each and every moment.
