Il Borgo di Vignamaggio, Tuscany

Best for: vineyard vows.

We heard it through the grapevine: this honey-hued hamlet can be hired exclusively for your wedding. Wrapped in vineyards, centuries-old olive groves, and cypress-lined paths, it’s the perfect place to say ‘I do’. So is the fresco-filled chapel, followed by whisking your guests to the flower-covered pergola terrace for pale pink rosé, and a sit-down dinner under the stars in the 14th-century villa’s courtyard.

Borgo Santo Pietro, Tuscany

Best for: a wellness-focused wedding.

If your dream day involves bees buzzing and goats grazing, set your sights on Borgo Santo Pietro. With beamed ceilings and exposed stone walls, this boutique, bucolic farmhouse is as rustic as it is romantic. Forage for your wedding feast from its gardens, exchange vows on an island marooned in the middle of the lake, and unwind in the spa with seed-to-skin products crafted on-site.

Hotel Il Pellicano, Tuscany

Best for: cliffside ceremonies and celebrations.

This isn’t Tennesse, but it is the only ten on the Tyrrhenian Sea we see. Clinging to a cliffside in southern Tuscany, A-listers have long been flocking to Il Pellicano for a splash in the shimmering swimming pool and papping pics by its scarlet façade. Follow suit by sealing the deal beneath bougainvillea-covered terraces, overlooking a private cove and the Argentario coast.

Conca del Sogno, Amalfi Coast

Best for: post-ceremony dips.

On your Amalfi Coast wedding agenda: sipping citrus-splashed spritzes and snacking on just-caught seafood at one of Europe’s best beach clubs. Lovebirds looking to say ‘I do’ with a view should glide into this secluded cove by boat, with yachts bobbing below, spaghetti pomodoro swooping onto tables above, and dancing the night away with their nearest and dearest.

Tonnara di Scopello, Sicily

Best for: saying yes by turquoise tides.

Tie the knot by turquoise tides and towering cliffs at this terracotta 13th-century tuna fishery-tucked into its own private bay near Palermo. Wake up in the bridal suite – complete with two balconies – and throw open the shutters to catch a satsuma-streaked Sicilian sunrise. Then, it’s time to seal the deal in this sea-sprayed, swoon-worthy setting, before clinking glasses of something sparkling as the sun melts into the Med. That’s amore.

Grand Hotel Tremezzo, Lake Como

Best for: arriving by boat.

Picture this: you’ve just hopped on a private boat and pootled over to this pretty, cream-coloured palace perched on the peaceful shores of Lake Como. Next, you hold your ceremony at Villa Carlotta next door, then head back to the hotel for your reception – with tangerine awnings and the turquoise water as your backdrop. And shortly after, you’re dipping in the heated floating pool.

Villa Balbiano, Lake Como

Best for: fairytale-like festivities.

Couples craving a couture-style ceremony will fall for this Vogue-featured, fairytale-like private palazzo. Set on Lake Como’s western shore, this grand gated residence offers six suites, two swimming pools, and perfectly manicured palace gardens. By day, daytime fireworks dance across the water; by night, glitzy chandeliers and gold accents glow.

Hotel Cipriani, A Belmond Hotel, Venice

Best for: tying the knot in timeless style.

Hotel Cipriani hides on Giudecca Island across from St. Mark’s Square. Arrive by water taxi to the hotel’s private pier, wander through wisteria-covered gardens, and toast Bellinis – the city’s very own cocktail, created just around the corner at Harry’s Bar – beside the Olympic-sized pool. After your ceremony, hop on a gondola to glide past the city’s best sights – like Doge’s Palace and Rialto Bridge.

Reschio Hotel, Umbria

Best for: romantic and rustic receptions.

Calling all countrybumpkins and castle-lovers: this thousand-year-old fortress with restored stables rests in the rolling Umbrian hills. Seven stone farmhouses scattered across the estate can be rented to create your own private village of wedding guests. A major celebrity magnet, other stars of the show include a pool peppered with umbrella pines and estate-grown wines uncorked at golden hour.

Villa Aurelia, Rome

Best for: secret garden soirées.

When in Rome, do as the Romans do and host your big day at this beautiful Baroque villa. Set on the highest point within the ancient city walls, Villa Aurelia is all about sweeping views of the Eternal City’s domes and rooftops. Nibble on canapés served in lemon-strewed courtyards, before sitting down for a banquet-style dinner in the Secret Garden, serenaded by a harpist and violinist duo.
