Relax and rejuvenate in New York’s five best new luxury spas.

NYC is an exciting but exhausting place to live and visit. Visitors often end their days with sore feet and tired bodies from walking for miles to explore museums, parks, and city streets; locals have packed schedules and typically work long hours. Thankfully, the city also has some of the best spas in the world – here are five new ones that we count amongst the best.

1. Aman Spa New York

The Aman New York opened to much fanfare in August 2022, and the minimalist three-level spa is a true oasis in bustling midtown. Featuring a 65-foot indoor swimming pool, fire pits, and daybeds, there is a spacious steam and sauna room to accommodate multiple visitors without feeling crowded. The highlight is the two private-use-only Spa Houses, each with double treatment rooms, private banya and hammam rooms, and outdoor terraces with hot and cold plunge pools, daybeds, and fireplaces.

Additionally, there is a medical spa with a functional and integrative medical doctor, a traditional Chinese Medicine practitioner, and a physiotherapist, all available for consults; a cryotherapy chamber; and seven treatment rooms. There is an extensive menu of treatments, but the two-hour Aman New York Signature Journey is a great place to start. It includes meditative singing bowls, a scrub and oil application, therapeutic massage techniques, and pressure point stimulation.

2. The Ritz-Carlton Spa New York, NoMad

The newest NYC location of Ritz-Carlton opened in the NoMad neighbourhood last summer, and its 6,800 square-foot spa makes a great escape from the city. In addition to eight treatment rooms, there are luxurious men's and women's marble steam rooms and saunas, along with a small but serene relaxation room where a delicious cocoa tea is presented post-treatment.

Treatments include Augustinus Bader facials and ESPA massages – we recommend the signature Rose Quartz Remedy, which involves a full body exfoliation followed by a body and scalp massage using frangipani, rose geranium, and palmerosa oils, with rose quartz used similarly to hot stones for a calming effect.

3. Spa Diane Barrière

Last fall, the Parisian luxury Hotel Barrière Fouquet opened a location in Tribeca, and its under-the-radar spa is one of the city's best. A spacious wet room with a sauna, steam room, and a large heated hydro-pool with features like a bubble chair and various jets and fountains anchors the marble-clad oasis, while five treatment rooms are decorated with interesting objet d'art.

The extensive spa menu features Biologique Recherche and Les Huilettes facials and body treatments; we love the Spa Diana Barièrre Signature Body Massage, which combines lymphatic drainage, trigger point, and Swedish techniques to excellent effect and is followed by a glass of champagne.

4. Sisley-Paris Spa at the Dominick Hotel

The Dominick Hotel recently renovated and rebranded its seventh-floor spa, welcoming Sisley-Paris as a partner in March. The new design boasts gold walls and plenty of greenery, and facilities include a sauna, steam room, and salt chamber. In addition to an all-new menu of skincare and massage services, there are three body rituals and a 90-minute Moroccan hammam experience, which involves a full body exfoliation on a heated marble slab, a traditional rinse, a clay wrap, and finally, an olive oil soap bubble massage.

5. Dr Barbara Sturm Madison Ave NYC Spa & Boutique

Last fall, NYC was blessed with two back-to-back openings of Dr Barbara Sturm spa locations, one in Soho and one on the Upper East Side. Thanks to its setting inside a classic townhouse, we're partial to the UES one, which offers all the anti-ageing innovations Dr Barbara Sturm is known for, plus specialities like IV therapies by Drip Hydration, microneedling, and microcurrent treatments. The stylish treatment rooms feature brightly coloured and boldly patterned wallpapers, which is unique to this location (in contrast, Soho's is white and minimalist) – and there's even a double treatment room for couples.
