As the new year approaches, so too does an increased focus on wellness and relaxation – especially after the festive season reaches its fever pitch. With that in mind, we’ve asked our beauty editor to select the world’s best new luxury spas to look out for throughout 2023. From the just-opened Claridge’s Spa to personal wellness villas in the Maldives, see below for her recommendations.
Claridge’s London
Claridge’s has always been a popular destination for London-bound A-listers; now, with its first-ever spa, it’s set to become a hotspot for rest and relaxation, too. Situated three floors below ground level and spanning a huge 7,000 square feet, the new wellness haven includes a swimming pool, seven heavenly treatment rooms, steam rooms and a sauna. Look out for its best-in-class residencies of beauty and wellness experts to be treated from head to toe, such as luxe hair styling from Josh Wood and manicures from Harriet Westmoreland.

Anantara Veli Maldives
This paradise destination reopens in December 2022, following an eight-month renovation. Its new look is by NYC-based designer Yuji Yamazaki; each beach villa has a traditional-meets-contemporary tropical style, with a natural palette of wood, stone and rattan, plus pops of pink and blue throughout. For the first time, guests will be able to book a personalised wellness villa that features light, sound and scent therapy, Ayurvedic spa amenities, a meditation earthing mat, and a wellness minibar. It’s the perfect escape for those looking for a wellbeing overhaul whilst soaking up the sunshine.

Lanserhof Sylt
Those who prefer an analytical approach to wellbeing may find Lanserhof Sylt to be their next go-to. Also known as the ‘Hamptons of Germany’, Sylt has long been treasured for its healing climate and restorative sea air; the ideal location for Lanserhof’s first seaside spa. It uses the group’s signature combination of cutting-edge diagnostics with natural healing methods. As such, everything is hi-tech, from bedrooms featuring a unique, human-centric lighting concept to keep you in harmony with natural biorhythms, to medical consultations and a programme overseen by cardiologist, Dr. Jan Stritzke.
