It’s a warm summer’s day and suddenly it hits you: you must spend the evening sipping sunset spritzes somewhere in Mayfair. So, being experts in London’s most upscale locale, we’ll fill you in on where to do just that. Our selection features new openings and annual staples – dig in below, and click here for more Mayfair restaurant recommendations.

In this article:

34 Mayfair

Best for: English sparkling wine fans.

34 Mayfair does seasonal dressing so well. And, despite the context here, we’re talking fashion, not food. Right now, it’s all pretty in pink for the launch of its ‘Sparkling Mayfair Summer’ terrace takeover in partnership with Nyetimber. The English sparkling wine house is providing a gorgeous limited-edition ‘English Summer’ Rosé bottle – think wild strawberry illustrations and red-fruit notes that pair beautifully with the restaurant's raw bar. Don't sleep on the lobster mac and cheese paired with 1086 by Nyetimber Rosé, either. Runs until 12th September.

Terrazza at Il Gattopardo

Best for: a retractable roof for rainy days.

We eagerly awaited this 60s-inspired Italian restaurant’s summer garden room to open since we were first through its doors in 2023. And when that day came, it didn’t disappoint. Now the sun is set to shine in London again, the team will be rolling back the retractable glass roof and opening Terrazza for (leopard-printed) business. The summery Italian menu includes whole line-caught sea bream to share, Sicilian red prawns, and a big, branded tiramisu. Our tip? Stop by the bar for an afternoon basil mojito – or late-night limoncello negroni.

The Terrace at Claridge’s Bar

Best for: lunch dates at an iconic London institution.

It’s hard to believe, but Claridge’s never had an outdoor terrace until May 2024, when the team welcomed their first diners to the new secluded, street-level space just outside the main bar. They’re offering a summery, seasonal menu, including the hotel’s signature Claridge’s fried chicken with lime chipotle yoghurt, two lobster dishes (we’re eyeing up the lobster roll), two Provence rosés, and a killer cocktail list – try the blood orange garibaldi for a twist on the traditional Aperol.

The MAINE Mayfair

Best for: oyster lovers.

Nothing says ‘summer in the city’ like sliding into a sunlit booth at an ivy-smothered orangery-cum-terrace. But that’s what this concealed courtyard behind Hanover Square brings to the table – as well as New England classics like oysters served with soft shavings of horseradish. Other MAINE attractions: a brioche roll filled to the brim with lobster and creamy lemon aioli, and tender, sticky short ribs drooling with a treacle-like honey mustard glaze.

Scott’s Mayfair

Best for: a South of France-inspired rendezvous.

Is any table more coveted than one outside Scott’s? As soon as the seafood stalwart’s terrace starts to fill every year, it’s a sure sign that summer is on its way. And this year, it’s partnered with Whispering Angel for the launch of its ‘Summer in Provence’ terrace. You’ll sip the pale rosé’s 20th anniversary vintage on a sun-drenched terrace, surrounded by sweet-smelling lavender, vineyard planting, and sculptural cypress trees. Top it all off with one of the three juicy lobster dishes on the menu – trust us. Runs until 31st August.

Dovetale

Best for: DIY Knickerbocker Glories.

We mostly included Dovetale in this list because we want to talk about the Knickerbocker Glory trolley. But we won’t skip the other important details – like the fact its terrace is a greenery-filled, lively space from double Michelin-starred chef Tom Sellers which offers grilled wagyu, oysters, and lemony ravioli. And the aforementioned trolley? As per Dovetale’s partnership with Casamigos, you’ll be able to build your own Knickerbocker Glory and frozen margaritas – which have been given suitably joyful twists via popping candy and coconut flakes.

Le Magritte at The Beaumont

Best for: rare spirits and premium cigars.

If your ideal summer evening involves a double shot of bourbon and a selection of Cuban cigars, you’ll want to mosey on down to The Beaumont. Overlooking Mayfair’s Brown Hart gardens, the intimate terrace offers a selection of the hotel’s signature transatlantic dishes – try the sliders with American mustard and pickled onion, pasta puttanesca, and a DIY Rosi Sundae. Pair your food with a martini made your way with Seventy One Gin, one of the world's most exclusive gins. Get there early – last we checked, these rattan chairs are available for walk-ins only.
