Virtual Pride Events

Words by Keven Amfo

22 June 2020

Pride month will still be celebrated amongst social distancing measures—discover these online events throughout June.

Pride 3

First started in commemoration of the Stonewall riots, a pivotal moment in LGBTQ+ history, Pride has now grown into a global celebration of the LGBTQ+ community. Typically taking the form of parades, marches and parties, this year most of the festivities are being held online in consideration of lockdown and social distancing measures. Innovative planning and a commitment to still paying homage to the importance of this time has created a month’s worth of virtual fun—see below for details.

United in Pride Film Festival

Through 28th June

This collection of films gives voice to LGBTQ+ filmmakers and creators of colour, providing an inclusive platform—sponsored by Billboard—for makers to show their work. New movies will be released daily, and include both shorts and feature films.

Youth Pride Extravaganza

Through 29th June

Tune in live to this four-episode event, aiming to unite queer youth of colour. Featuring celebrity appearances from the likes of Sandra Bernhard and Zachary Quinto, and a variety of performances, the episodes can be viewed live on their Facebook page or afterwards on their YouTube channel.

Proudly Resilient

Through 30th June

Out Leadership, an organization that connects companies and individuals in and out of the LGBTQ+ community in order to create a more inclusive business world, has put together a month-long itinerary of speakers and panels. Aiming to network and help companies understand ways to best support the community, some prestigious leaders will present keynote speeches.

In partnership with GLAAD and NYC Pride, this three-day event will feature performances, appearances and panel discussions featuring black queer thought leaders and advocates, such as Laverne Cox and Todrick Hall.

It Gets Better Project encourages the LGBTQ+ community to share their stories to foster a sense of community and support. During this three-day celebration, they partner with musicians, artists, beauty and fitness experts—amongst others—to create an empowering and informative digital pride celebration.
