One of the world’s biggest fashion events took place on Monday 6th May at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York. The 71st annual Met Gala Ball is the annual benefit event that always bears witness to the great, the good and the downright eccentric on the red carpet. The guest list was as exclusive and as eclectic as ever, and tickets, almost impossible to snag. This year, the theme was Camp: Notes on Fashion - to coincide with an upcoming exhibition at the Met, inspired by the US writer and political activist Susan Sontag's 1964 essay, Notes on Camp.
There was plenty of irony, parody, pastiche, theatricality, exaggeration and humour on display, not least from Lady Gaga, who made her entrance in a voluminous pink outfit, while the gala’s main host and editor of Vogue, Anna Wintour wowed the crowds in a feather boa-style creation by Chanel, and Cara Delevingne arrived wrapped in rainbow ribbons, complete with banana headpiece.
