NORWAY: The Restaurants Edition

Norwegian cuisine is all about fantastic local ingredients such as king crab from the Barents Sea, excellent fish such as salmon, cod or halibut, organic Lofoten lamb or the tasty cloudberry for example. Norway also has chefs to rival the best in Europe; a vast array of local specialties and traditional dishes for all seasons. Five Norwegian restaurants now have a total of six Michelin stars. Four restaurants have one michelin star whilst Maaemo, the innovative Oslo restaurant has received three stars. Kontrast, Statholdergaarden, Sabi Omakase and RE-NAA have single stars.

MAAEMO ***
Schweigaardsgate 15b

Nordic food temple with three stars in the Michelin Guide for the second year in a row. At Maaemo, raw produce is of the highest importance. By using the finest producers, who approach their product with love and understanding, this experimental fine dining restaurant hopes to help others rediscover the pride in using local produce. The drinks menus have been carefully selected to add an extra dimension to each of the courses on the seasonal set menu.

Opening hours:
6pm on Wednesday – Thursday and from 7pm on Friday – Saturday. Lunch on Fridays and Saturdays from 12.00. Our latest seating for dinner on Tuesday – Thursday is 7:30pm, and 8:30pm on Fridays and Saturdays. The latest seating for lunch is 12:45pm.


STATHOLDERGAARDEN *
Rådhusgaten 11

Among Oslo's best restaurants with culinary art on the top shelf. Deserved Michelin star. Each day chefs Bent Stiansen and Torbjørn Forster create a sixcourse gourmet menu full of surprises. The menu varies according to the time of the year and they pride themselves on using Norwegian produce when it is at its best.

Opening hours:
Monday to Saturday 18.99 to midnight. The kitchen closes at 21.30 to new orders.


KONTRAST *
Maridalsveien 15 a

One star in the Michelin guide. Kontrast is a Modern Scandinavian restaurant with a focus on using ingredients that are both local and at the peak of their season. Our main goals are to offer world class, organic and ethically sourced ingredients from within Norway and to showcase the farmers who produce them.

Opening hours:
Tuesday – Saturday 18-22


SABI OMAKASE *
Pedersgata 38, Stavanger

Roger is one of the few Sushi chefs in Norway accredited by Ajsa, all Japan Sushi Association. In 2015 Roger Could finally realize the dream of opening a traditional sushi restaurant in Stavanger, Omakase. He has brought his vision, heart and skills to offer you a unique dining experience. Omakase, for the first time, brings Stavanger and Norway the opportunity to take part in world renowned "Edomae Sushi" (authentic style, originally invented circa 200 years ago, in former Tokyo) prepared and served by Roger himself, according to the historic tradition of hospitality. At Omakase every seat is at the chefs table.

RE-NAA RESTAURANT *
Breitorget 6, Stavanger

Re-Naa offers food and wines from the top shelves, served in representative surroundings with an intimate, relaxed atmosphere. Sven Erik Re-naa and his team prepare classical yet innovative dishes from first class, locally sourced ingredients. The Restaurant is suitable for both formal and informal occasions; business dinners, family celebrations, romantic rendezvous or friends' night out.

THEATERCAFÉEN
Stortingsgaten 24/26

Exuberant and bustling, lively and unique. Part of Norwegian cultural history and an absolute must for every visitor to Oslo. Our legendary Vienna-style café is featured on the New York Times list of the world's ten most famous cafés, and has indisputably been the city's most popular dining and meeting place for over 100 years. This restaurant is a part of Hotel Continental.

Opening hours:
Mon to Sat kl. 11.00 – 23.00
Sunday kl. 15.00 – 22.00


EKEBERGRESTAURANTEN
Kongsveien 15

An Oslo institution since the early 20th century, sitting right at the top of Ekebergåsen, the exceptional view, updated architecture and interior design, as well as the quality of food and service have placed Ekebergrestauranten amongst the top restaurants in Norway. The seasonal gourmet restaurant, located on the second floor, gives an amazing view of the city and the harbor which can be enjoyed with your meal or perhaps on a private tour of the roof terrace with a glass of champagne.

Opening hours:
Mon – Sat: 11-24 ( kitchen closes 23:00 )
Sun/Public Holidays: 12-22 ( kitchen closes 21:00 )


RESTAURANT EIK (BibGourmand)
Universitetsgata 11

With Ole Jonny Eikefjord in the driving seat, the restaurant has constantly received good reviews and has established itself as one of the most popular restaurants in Oslo. The restaurant has received the distinction 'Bib-gourmand' on no less than nine occasions in the Michelin guide, including this year, 2013.
