New London Terraces

Words by Keven Amfo

12 August 2020

Dining and imbibing alfresco has assumed new levels of importance this season. Whilst current government guidelines permit restaurants to open for indoor eating, many still prefer to eat outside in the fresh air for additional levels of safety—plus, London has been blessed with some truly spectacular weather. With this in consideration, many establishments have gone above and beyond to either expand their outdoor capacities or create one anew. Discover some of our seasonal favourites below.

The garden at the berkeley

The Garden at The Berkeley

Overlooking St Paul’s with Mediterranean-inspired gardens, this transportive dining experience will make you feel as if you’re actually on that vacation you might have had to cancel. Most of the appealing yet straightforward menu is prepared on a grill, and they’ve created a new cocktail menu that is served by the pitcher—we recommend the Amalfi.

Dinner by Heston Garden Terrace

Dinner by Heston at the Garden Terrace

Heston Blumenthal’s celebrated Knightsbridge restaurant overlooking Hyde Park has opened a beautiful terrace for August. Open daily from 12–7pm, expect a specially designed menu featuring several of Heston’s cheeky and internet-famous, all inspired by historic British gastronomy.

Colbert x Lillet on Sloane Sq 3

Pétanque in the Square at Colbert

Classic Parisian-inspired café Colbert takes the challenge of creating an authentic French experience even further this summer, with their ‘Pétanque in the Square’ pop-up. Created in collaboration with Lillet, every Wednesday through Sunday will feature boules and an exclusive menu of Lillet Spritz cocktails, alongside a snack menu.

CUT OUT at 45

CUT Out at 45 Park Lane

Thoughtful lighting sets the mood at this twinkling terrace outside Wolfgang Puck’s CUT at 45 Park Lane. Arrive early for aperitivo and to enjoy their famous Negroni cart, then stay into the evening for the American-influenced menu—indulge with the curated champagne pairings.

Jurema at the Mandrake

Jurema Bar at the Mandrake

Lush greenery surrounds this terrace, inspired by South America and scented with blooming jasmine and passionflower plants. The menu features items from across Central and South America, with a European twist, and is meant to be shared. Make sure to try one of the tropical drinks, to feel as if you’ve left London indeed.

Double Standard

Double Standard at the Standard London

The terrace at Double Standard is the sort where you want to sit and drink all day… which you can. Boozy milkshakes and an Aperol Spritz slush mean the frozen drinks section is covered, or, go for Bottomless Sunday Brunch and really make a day out of it!

JOY at Portobello Dock

FLORA at Portobello Dock

Located entirely outdoors, this West London restaurant has several components to it: JOY, a greengrocer featuring Kentish produce, The Honey Store selling unused honey previously allocated for restaurants, a bottle shop of natural wines and craft beers—plus, FLORA restaurant. The hyper-seasonal menu changes daily depending on the available produce; don’t miss the dessert.
