Words by Keven Amfo

London has its fair share of amazing and fancy restaurants. Sometimes, though, the concept of ‘fine dining’ can be reimagined. Beyond artful small plates, this selection of restaurants each offers something you won't find elsewhere.

Table Lumiere Alain Ducasse at The Dorchester min

Table Lumière, Alain Ducasse at The Dorchester, 53 Park Lane W1K 1QA

This must be one of the most dazzling options for private dining in London. Cocooned by a luminescent oval curtain, the Table Lumière is encircled by 4,500 shimmering fibre optics that plunge from the ceiling, allowing you and your dining companion(s) to soak up the atmosphere while remaining entirely shielded from the gaze of diners. Absolute privacy, Michelin-starred cuisine, refined service, and an armoury of vintage Hermès china and Saint-Louis crystal are there for your enjoyment.

Bob Bob Cite min

Bob Bob Cité, Leadenhall Building, 122 Leadenhall Street EC3V 4AB

The new location from the group behind favourite Bob Bob Ricard is a modern iteration of the classic French brasserie, in the heart of the city. The opulent all-booth interiors, replete with mirrored walls, are the backdrop for traditional French fare, helmed by celebrated chef Eric Chavot. An extensive French-leaning wine list complements the perfectly-serviced meal.

Sommeliers Table at The Connaught min

Sommelier’s Table at The Connaught, Carlos Place W1K 2AL

Any dining experience at Hélène Darroze at The Connaught is special, but the Sommelier’s Table is truly exceptional. Blending the dual expertise of chef and sommelier, the perfectly paired meal will take place in their limestone wine cellar. Surrounded by private collections, exclusive to The Connaught, the sommelier will personally describe the wines as they are revealed and the chef will explain the dishes as they are presented, matching the wines.

Core by clare smyth bar min

Core by Clare Smyth, 92 Kensington Park Road W11 2PN

This relaxed fine dining experience comes courtesy of Michelin-starred Irish chef, Clare Smyth. The cuisine celebrates the best of British produce, utilizing the season’s finest ingredients in beautiful, artfully-presented dishes. Clare herself often runs the pass, and the menus are available tasting or a la carte. Arrive early and have an expertly-mixed cocktail or glass of wine in the front cocktail bar.

45 jermyn st min

45 Jermyn Street, 45 Jermyn Street SW1Y 6JD

This beautifully designed Fortnum & Mason owned restaurant aims to restore the glamour in dining. Open from breakfast through dinner, unique touches such as a Caviar Trolley, a sundae menu, and a global Bloody Mary menu at breakfast make dining at 45 Jermyn Street genuinely different. A perfect combination of familiar favourites and surprises mean there’s something comforting and enjoyable for everyone, and it’s an excellent way to experience elevated dining without the pressures of a typical fine dining experience.

The Reading Room at Hide min

The Reading Room at Hide, 85 Piccadilly W1J 7NB

This magical room, located in the basement vault of Hide, is an exceptional dining experience for up to six guests. The round booth is framed by an arch of books and sculpted paper, all reflecting in the panelled mirror behind the table. Each of the tasting menu options spotlights British ingredients, and there are vegetarian and vegan menus as well. A wine list courtesy of Hedonism Wines means unusual and unexpected pairings.

Claude Bosi at Bibendum min

Claude Bosi at Bibendum, Michelin House, 81 Fulham Rd SW3 6RD

The three dining experiences by Claude Bosi in the historic Michelin House—Oyster Bar, La Maison Rémy Martin, and the elegant dining room—are each great in their own way. Still, for the full experience, a visit to the dining room is a must. Under the light from the beautiful stained glass windows, guests can enjoy either tasting or a la carte menus. On Sundays, they serve an exceptional roast.

Roganic min

Roganic, 5-7 Blandford Street W1U 3DB

Michelin-starred Roganic began as a pop-up restaurant. Now a full-blown fine dining experience, the restaurant features produce grown on chef/proprietor Simon Rogan’s farm in Cartmel Valley. The menu is full of comforting classics, reinvented with an imaginative edge. The accompanying wine flights are less expensive than at other similar restaurants and very complementary to the meal.
