The Concept

Hotbox London takes its inspiration from co-founder Basit Nasim's travels across the Deep South and Mexico where he discovered the art of the true BBQ and became fascinated with the blends of spices and chilli's used to make the perfect rubs and sauces that come alive under a smoker. After a year of taking Hotbox to festivals and pop-ups around the country, Basit and co-founder Preeya Khagram-Nasim opened their restaurant in late 2014. Basit spent a decade going back and forth to Dallas and Austin to learn the art of smoking which he and Head Chef Lewis Spencer perfected at the legendary Franklin Barbecue under the watchful eye of Aaron Franklin himself. The BBQ concept is simple but the food is not, with hours of slow smoking and powerful flavours going into the dishes on offer.

The Cuisine

Brunch is synonymous with American dining and Hotbox have a bottomless brunch offering that will transport you from its humble abode in Shoreditch to the Texas plains. To start with, you have a choice of Prosecco, Mimosas or a long list of Bloody Mary variations as your bottomless drink of choice and as they all looked so appealing we had a strong feeling that the afternoon could get a bit lively! The menu has all the American classics you would expect including Buttermilk Pancakes with bacon & syrup as well as Ribs from the famous smoker and some luxurious Truffled Eggs.

The Space

Nestled in London's trendy East End, Hotbox is located in a former art gallery in a Grade II listed building on Commercial Street, a perfect pit stop for people who enjoy a visit to Spitalfields Market, vintage shops and boutiques. The interior is very simple with long wooden tables and benches and an industrial backdrop. The smell of the smoker hits you instantly as you walk in, increasing your appetite and getting you very excited about the delicious BBQ food. An ideal place to meet friends at the weekend, the atmosphere is lively and you are close to some great bars to carry on the party.

Menu Highlights

Buttermilk Pancakes with Bacon - probably one of the best American style pancakes we have eaten, deliciously light and fluffy.

Roast Corn & Crushed Avocado with Feta - avocado on toast is still very much a trend but this combination with roasted corn, chilli and feta is fantastic

Red Bloody Mary (Gin, Passata, Glazed Cherry Tomatoes & Port) - we think this one speaks for itself!

Q Insider Tip

Saturdays can be quite noisy as big groups often take over, so if you are looking for a chilled brunch, Sundays are the best day to visit.

Brunch – 11:30am – 2:30pm (Saturday); 11:30am – 6pm (Sunday)
