A British Overseas Territory, this Eastern Caribbean island is only 35 square miles big. Following mass devastation by Hurricane Irma, the island has been largely rebuilt and is experiencing a resurgence. A variety of beaches, from scene-y to secluded to totally secret, means it is an excellent option for sunbathing and relaxation. Surrounded by colorful, teeming reefs, it is the perfect place for exploring in a glass-bottomed boat. Indulge in some fantastic restaurants — Anguilla has been dubbed ‘the cuisine capital’ of the Caribbean.

Stay

Malliouhana

Perched on a panoramic bluff overlooking the Caribbean Sea, Malliouhana is the perfect beachside hideaway. VIP-style cabanas line the freshwater infinity pool (for adults only). Take a complimentary morning yoga class to offset the evening cocktails you’ve enjoyed at Bar Soleil.

Belmond Cap Juluca

Having just undergone a significant renovation, this Moorish-style hotel has long been a glamorous and legendary celebrity-filled Caribbean retreat. Every room is oceanfront with a private terrace — you may not want to leave. The new spa is excellent, and the beach club is full service. For dinner, try the famous Pimms and have a cocktail at Cip’s, the new Cipriani’s outpost.

Four Seasons Resort & Residences

This contemporary property is located on the northwest edge of the island overlooking Meads Bay. A sophisticated palette of neutrals with wood and marble accents sets the aesthetic of this property apart from the others. The two-storey spa utilises local ingredients, and the Sunset Lounge bar often features live bands and visiting DJs.

Eat & Drink

Blanchards Beach Shack

This beloved shack is owned and run by the chef-owners of one of the island’s finest restaurants, Blanchards, which is next door. Enjoy their renowned jerk chicken with a fruit daiquiri in the festive beachfront environment.

Sandy Island

Jump on the 10-minute sea shuttle (aptly named ‘Happiness’) to the small off-shore cay. The low-key shack has a traditional drum-pan barbecue grill and cooler stocked with cold beer, alongside a reputation for serving the best freshly caught lobster in the world.

Sunshine Shack

A bright atmosphere and delicious barbecue menu of ribs, fresh snapper, and jerk chicken is accompanied by reggae tunes and refreshing cold cocktails.

Elvis’ Beach Bar

For some authentic island energy, spend an evening at this quirky and fun beach bar, which serves good vibes alongside informal Mexican bites and cold drinks. The rooftop deck has spectacular sunset views.

What to do

Carnival

Travel to Anguilla during July and August, and you will be able to experience lively celebrations across the island. Street parades, boat racing, and live calypso music fill the air every summer.

Diving and snorkeling

With six national marine parks, nine shipwreck dive sites, and warm crystal waters, Anguilla has a well-deserved reputation as a diving and snorkeling mecca.

Turtle spotting

During nesting season, April - November, Hawksbill, Green, Leatherback, and Loggerhead turtles can be spotted on the island’s beaches. Learn preservation techniques by joining a night patrol beach monitor programme.

Sailing

Charter a private yacht to enjoy a leisurely sail, exploring the secluded coves and offshore cays of Prickly Pear, Scrub Island, and Little Bay.
