From NYC

Mayflower Inn, Connecticut

Mayflower Inn, Washington, Connecticut

Less than two hours outside NYC, this peaceful retreat feels worlds away. Set amongst 58 acres of woods and grasslands, this elegant resort is reminiscent of an English country house. Offering various rooms, suites and cottages to welcome groups of all sizes, the actual draw to visiting this season is a residency by celebrated chef April Bloomfield. Her menus focus on local produce and farms and will be served throughout the property.

Also, don’t miss a trip to their spa, The Well. Featuring a menu of treatments that aims to restore mind, body and soul (led by Medical Director Dr Frank Lipman), the full day Reconnect Treatment will result in a rejuvenation unimaginable considering the happenings of the past year.

Acqualina, Florida

Acqualina Resort, Miami, Florida

Hop a short flight from NYC to this Sunny Isles seaside haven. Beautifully serene, modern-designed rooms and suites are a perfect respite from the colourful happenings outside – three outdoor swimming pools offer floats and pool toys, and beachside service means you can sun all day without lifting a finger.

Plenty of activities keep children entertained while mum and dad relax; three dining options mean guests stay well-fed without becoming bored with the choices on offer. Il Mulino’s Sunday bottomless brunch is somewhat of a scene and worthy of being so. Endless options plus a continuous flow of bloody marys and bellinis beckon lingering into the early afternoon.

Montage Laguna Beach, California

Montage Laguna Beach, Laguna Beach, California

Perched on a bluff, this 30-acre Orange County retreat makes the most of its breathtaking surroundings. Decorated in modern Californian coastal style, the rooms, suites, and villas offer sweeping ocean views. Make the most of the sunny clime by renting a poolside cabana for the day – service is impeccable, and it’s the most comfortable way to lounge with children in tow.

The food on-site is delicious and reliable, with many healthy options, but there are so many fabulous restaurants in the area that we suggest venturing out for dinner. Luxe Mexican favourite Javier’s is in nearby Newport Beach. Should you want to indulge in a few margaritas and not drive, Montage can arrange for a private transfer to and from.

Nobu Ryokan, Malibu, California

Intimate and beautiful, it is a marvel that Nobu’s Malibu hotel is so close to LA proper. Designed as a traditional Japanese Ryokan, the 16-room property features amenities such as teak soaking tubs and removable walls to truly let the oceanfront surroundings in.

Offering beachside service (one of few Malibu properties to do so), guests can enjoy Nobu dishes whilst lounging on exclusive Carbon Beach. Lush gardens and interior courtyards suggest lingering when taking a break from the beach; each guest room features private outdoor space so guests can lounge in total privacy.

From San Francisco

Post Ranch Inn, California

Post Ranch Inn, Big Sur, California

This iconic property is approximately three hours outside of San Francisco (part of that along picturesque Highway 1). An escape in every sense of the word, the surroundings are so other-worldly; just being at Post Ranch Inn is restorative in and of itself. Whether gazing at the ocean or enveloped in the redwood forests, a stay here is a reminder of just how small we are in the scheme of things.

The dining is expectedly fresh and delicious – breakfast is served outdoor on the deck, which seemingly hovers above the ocean. A visit here is best enjoyed reflecting, soaking in the surroundings and appreciating nature – and the world – in all its glory.
